Receiving the Lyford Cay Foundation Scholarship changed my life. Not to sound cliché, but I would not be where I am today if it were not for you, the donor. I’ve been faced with many challenges. I grew up in a fatherless home with a single mother struggling to care for two young children and a special-needs child, in a neighbourhood where the nightly lullaby was sirens and gunshots. Although some have had it worst, these struggles only scratch the surface of the challenges I have had to face as a young man in trying to get an education. If you would have told me 15 years ago that I would have earned a doctorate before the age of 30 I would not have believed you – a fool’s dream made only possible by God through the compassionate generosity of persons like you. I’m truly one of the many persons whose lives have been changed by the Lyford Cay Foundation.
