My education began long before ever entering a classroom. I am truly blessed to have had two parents who did all they could to not only promote and nurture in me the desire for education but to ensure that I received the best possible. I remember when I indicated that I was desirous of attending university, my mother said, “If I have to re-mortgage this house so that you can, I will.”
When I received the Lyford Cay Foundation scholarship, I remember thinking that someone saw something in me — some gift, some potential, and the realisation of and for which they were prepared to provide the opportunity.
The provision of a scholarship to the recipient is to make possible that which would not otherwise be. In so providing, the donors have immeasurably contributed to the building of the modern Bahamas.
