Now that I am a medical doctor, I would definitely like to contribute to more public awareness in the Bahamas with regards to chronic illnesses like hypertension and diabetes that are plaguing our country. It is a shame that in 2014 we have individuals that are unaware or refuse to seek help when their disease/illness has progressed and unfortunately they come to the hospital for care when “the battle is almost over”.
The impact that receiving a Lyford Cay Foundation scholarship has is difficult to put in words, but what I can say is that it provides a stepping stone to getting tertiary level education. It pushes individuals to strive for excellence because to meet the criteria for the scholarship, one has to be a good well rounded student.
Receiving a scholarship is blessing but to be chosen as a Lyford Cay Scholar is definitely an honour.
