“I think that part of the scholarship is that you take on an ambassadorial role for The Bahamas. It almost puts it into writing that I need to be aware of what’s going on in The Bahamas, and be aware of how I can come back to contribute to this country, and I feel really proud that I’m able to represent The Bahamas, hopefully in a good light.”

Undergraduate Academic Scholarships

The Lyford Cay Foundations offer scholarships generally worth $7,500 per annum each.

The selection criteria are weighted as follows:

Academic merit 35%
Financial need 35%
Caliber of proposed college or university 10%
Field of study 10%
Candidate’s personal qualities 10%

To determine academic merit, the Screening Committee evaluates numerous factors including a candidate’s GPA, local and international test scores (BGCSE, SAT, AP and IB), the rigour of the academic programmes pursued, awards and recommendations.

Priority is given to fields of study considered most valuable to the economic needs of The Bahamas. These include agriculture, the arts, economics, education, engineering, environmental studies, financial services, foreign languages, health sciences, hospitality management, quantity surveying, sciences, technology and tourism.

The Committee also considers the applicant’s financial resources, the cost of attendance at the proposed college or university, the caliber of the institution and a candidate’s personal qualities, including his or her leadership skills and contribution to the community.

Deadline for all applications is March 31 of each year.
