Manuel J. Cutillas, Chairman
Manuel Jorge Cutillas was born in Cuba on March 1, 1932. He is the great-great grandson of Don Facundo Bacardi, the founder of the Bacardi company. Mr. Cutillas left Cuba in 1960 after the Castro regime confiscated the family business.
Mr. Cutillas is a Director of Grupo Televisa S. A., Chairman of the University of Miami International Advisory Board, and a Fellow of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award World Fellowship. He has been the Honorary Mexican Consul to The Bahamas since 1979.
Mr. Cutillas began his career as Assistant Distillery Superintendent of Ron Bacardi S. A. in 1955 and was promoted to Plant Superintendent of Bacardi & Co. Ltd. in 1961. He subsequently served as Vice President of Bacardi & Co. Ltd. (1970–1977); President and CEO of Bacardi & Co. Ltd., Bahamas, and Bacardi International Ltd., Bermuda (1977–1992); President and CEO of Bacardi Limited (1992–1997), and Chairman of the Board of Bacardi Limited (1997–2000).
Mr. Cutillas received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, and was awarded an honorary doctorate in Business Administration by the University of Miami in 2000.
He joined the Board of Lyford Cay Foundation, Inc. in 1990. He was named President of the Board in 1996 and assumed the Chairmanship in 2002.
He and his wife Rosa reside in Lyford Cay. They have one son. Mr. Cutillas’ hobbies include fishing, hunting and golfing.
Stuart W. Ray, President
A longtime resident of The Bahamas, Mr. Ray joined the Foundation’s Board in 2001 and has served as its Vice President since 2004. He is also a member of the Foundation's Investment Committee and its College of The Bahamas Library Fund Raising Committee.
Mr. Ray is a Partner of Sonenshine Partners LLC, a New York-based investment bank, and a Founding Partner of Urban American Partners LLC, a New Jersey-based real estate firm.
Previously, he was a Managing Director and Partner at Bankers Trust Company, a Partner at Wolfensohn & Company, and a Policy Director in the US Department of Energy.
Mr. Ray has also served as a Director of a number of private companies, most recently at Millicom International Cellular, a publicly traded, Luxembourg-based telecommunications provider.
He has extensive civic, educational and charitable affiliations, including service to the Association of the Metropolitan Opera, the Byrd Hoffman Watermill Foundation, and the Professional Children’s School, all in New York.
Mr. Ray received AB and MBA degrees from Harvard University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and a member of the CFA Institute and the New York Society of Security Analysts.
He and his wife, Robin, reside in Old Fort Bay.
